Tyler Elliott, E.I.T.
Engineer in Training
The Professional:
Growing up, I naturally gravitated toward technical thinking. I remember spending hours with Lincoln Logs and Legos, building all kinds of structures. That interest ultimately led me to join a STEM program in high school where I developed skills in technical writing, research, public speaking, and networking. Through the program, I participated in both a job shadow and an internship, and for a while I thought I was headed toward a career in architecture. However, I had always wanted to attend Colorado State University, which doesn’t offer an Architecture program - but it does offer Civil Engineering, a field that still aligned with my passion for building and design.
I believe this change in trajectory was one of the best things to happen to me. I’ve been given many opportunities, but the most defining would have to be when I relocated to both Texas and Arkansas. I never thought I would leave Colorado, but by doing so I was able to learn new skills and apply that knowledge throughout my career to support the success of a variety of projects across the country.
Over the last 10 years, I have found my passion for land development. Whether it’s a commercial, mixed-use, or single-family development, each project provides a different set of challenges that are both fun and rewarding once a solution has been found. It is also amazing to see the projects come to life throughout the construction process and knowing that I not only had a hand in the design but the decision-making that made an idea a reality.
The Inner Flame:
Outside of work I enjoy reading, video games, and tabletop games. On the rare occasion you can find me at a game night, typically Dungeons and Dragons, with friends joking around and making memories. Most other times, you can find me curled up with one of the many books that I have managed to collect but am only just getting around to reading.
Over the last 5 years, I have also discovered that I possess an adventurous spirit, one that fuels my desire to travel and explore new places. It is my hope that I can engage with different cultures and gain a deeper understanding of the history that shapes each location. The world offers an immense range of experiences, and the opportunity to travel enables me to broaden my perspective and connect with others on a more meaningful level.
